On Wednesday, November 10th, the Women’s Committee returned in droves to Mother’s Refuge, a local organization dedicated to helping provide a safe home for pregnant young moms and babies that do not have a safe or permanent place to live.

Mother’s Refuge provides a multitude of services and as can be expected, that involves a ton of work! The Women’s Committee split into two teams to tackle some big projects and UAW Local 249 was able to present $5,000 on behalf of our local and the Women’s Committee.

One team helped to winterize the garden, pulling ripe vegetables, tilling and removing overgrowth and composting the weeds. The second team helped organize and pack clothes and accessories into totes to be transferred into storage as well as outdoor toys, strollers and car seats.

UAW Local 249’s President Jason Starr and newly appointed CAP Chair Jay Bosler learned in great detail how many resources Mother’s Refuge provides to young mother’s in need and how the home operates. “It definitely pulls on your heartstrings and puts into perspective what really matters when you visit these types of organizations,” Starr shared.

Next month the Women’s Committee plans to return and assist where they are most needed. Working with this organization has been a heart-warming experience and very fulfilling to all the committee members.
